The H-GEC supports outreach to enhance health care provider knowledge and public understanding of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and other forms of dementia. The H-GEC provides numerous continuing education activities for interprofessional health care providers on AD and other dementias, mental health, executive function and capacity, caregiver burden, pain assessment in patients who are cognitively impaired, and other related topics.
We have developed a free educational offering of one hour in length for health care providers in long-term care and assisted living communities about AD and dementia. It is entitled "Battles worth Fighting," since the aim of the educational program is to educate staff about dealing with difficult behaviors in residents with AD and dementia. It will also help to improve understanding of AD and other dementias and will provide several case examples to help staff directly identify the information with their own experiences.
Please feel free to contact us if you would like for the H-GEC to present this information to your staff at a time of your convenience. We are happy to arrange a presentation to help meet your in-service educational needs. Please call Kathleen Pace Murphy e-mail at Kathleen.P.Murphy@uth.tmc.edu.
