SNNAP file does not appear in formula editor or SNNAP simulation runs under Windows but not under Linux. |
case sensitive filenames |
SNNAP uses the Java VM to display the graphical user interface which is case sensitive. Therefore, a simulation may execute correctly in Windows, but a file might not appear in the formula editor if the extension is not of the correct case. The formula editor window displays the correct case for the file extension. Under Linux OS, the filename with a wrong extension will not run correctly as Linux is case sensitive. |

The "Regional and Language Options" (in Control Panel) for the Window operating system must be set such that decimal points are used with real numbers, JAVA and SNNAP do not recognized commas. In tab Regional Options, set the language to e.g. English UK. Changing the Customize "Numbers-Decimal symbol" does not affect the JAVA VM and may be left as a comma. In tab Advanced, set the language to e.g. English UK. |

The most common error occurs when the User deletes some component of a cell or network that is necessary for a successful simulation. To help the User, SNNAP generates errors messages, which are sent to the command window that was used to instigate the SNNAP simulation. |

Naming Multiple Synaptic Connections |

When a single presynaptic cell makes multiple synaptic connections with a given postsynaptic cell, the synapses must be given unique logical name within the *.ntw file. If they have identical logical names, only one of the connections will operate. |

Integrate Step Size |

The numerical simulator uses Euler integration method. The User must provide an appropriate step size to the simulator. The User generally finds an optimal step size by trial-and-error. Additional integration methods that are more stable are currently being incorporated into SNNAP. The Euler method, however, is both fast and accurate. It only requires that the User be aware of its potential for instability. |

The SNNAP editors do not use the User's input to parameter windows and thus do not distinguish between numbers and letters. Thus, the User may inadvertently input a letter where a number should be entered. SNNAP does not distinguish be real numbers and integers. Thus, 1 and 1.0 are equivalent and the User does not have to be care about the types of numbers used. |

Overlapping Display of Synaptic Connections |
