Application/Registration
The health science center registrars office can supply you with information on applying to the schools, transferring from other universities, and other application and registration information.

Bookstores
The health science center Bookstore carries required and recommended texts for its schools, most at a five percent discount from the publisher's suggested retail price, as well as an extensive array of reference texts. Medical equipment is also sold at a discount. The Bookstore buys used books every Friday. Dental students may also want to visit the Dental Branch Bookstore in the basement of the Dental Branch Building, 6516 John Freeman Boulevard, 713-500-4450.

Campus Diversity
The Equal Opportunity and Diversity office fosters a working and educational environment that supports cultural diversity as a part of daily life. Students are encouraged to visit the office, located in suite 1690 of the University Center Tower, 7000 Fannin, 713-500-3079.

Child Care
The health science center is proud to offer a fully accredited Child Development Center (UTCDC) to its faculty, staff, and students. The center takes infants from 6 weeks old to kindergarten children. The center is conveniently located at the University Housing complex on Cambridge. The UTCDC has an active parent organization, Building Blocks, that conducts fund raisers to support the center's activities. Computers and Computer Services
The health science center requires its students to have access to a computer on arrival at the university. Some computers are available across the university for student use; this varies with each school. Check with the student affairs office in your school for more information. The Office of Academic Technology offers a variety of computing services to students. The Academic Technology Web page has an index of anonymous FTP servers, training and user support information, as well as information on obtaining Internet access via the office. On site, the office provides a multimedia scriptorium that includes multimedia and courseware creation stations that provide the tools necessary to create first class courseware, Web pages, and multimedia presentations.
 
Copy and Printing Services
The health science center has a full-service print shop as well as copy services at the Dental Branch (Basement, Room 16R, 713-500-4195), Medical School (Room 1.012, 713-500-5891), and School of Public Health (Room E21, 713-500-9096). Copy machines are conveniently located throughout the UT-Houston campus; for information on vend cards, call 713-500-8411. For more information about printing or copy services call 713-500-4888. Financial Aid
The Office of Student Financial Aid is available in the University Center Tower (UCT). Their Web site will provide you with the criteria for receiving financial aid, how to apply, and how to get more information.
 
Food Services
The health science center has two cafeterias, one at the Dental Branch, and one at the School of Public Health. The food service Web page will provide information regarding locations, hours of operation, and information on the university's "official" food service providers. (You may want to note that students have input into the choice of these providers. Refer to the university policy 6.13 Student Services for more information.)

Housing
The health science center does not have dormitories, but does have an apartment complex that gives preference to health science center students, faculty, and staff. The University Housing Web page has information on a leasing application, rates, floor plans, and more, or call the office at 713-500-8444.

International Affairs
The university is proud to have a large and active international student body. These students are served by the Office of International Affairs, which strives to create an atmosphere conducive to meaningful intercultural experiences for all students, faculty, and staff. Among the services the office provides are counseling, orientation, and application of immigration procedures, as well as social activities. The office is located on the street level in the University Center Tower, Room 50, 713-500-3182.
 
Health Insurance
A student health insurance program is offered to registered students through a private company selected by The UT System Office. This plan is designed to supplement student health services provided in the UT Health Services clinic. The plan assists with expenses not covered by the student services fee and those incurred outside the clinic such as prescriptions and hospitalization. Students have the option of enrolling their families in this plan at an additional cost. Although it is not required, it is strongly recommended that all students carry some type of hospitalization insurance, either this plan or a similar policy. Parking and Shuttle Services
Parking in the Texas Medical Center is only slightly better than parking in Manhattan. The health science center offers several options for student parking, as well as an excellent shuttle service.

Publications
The university publishes dozens of documents, some put out by individual departments or schools, some put out by central administration. You can get copies of most publications (while supplies last) by contacting the office that created the document.
 
Security
The health science center has its very own police department, which is shared with The UT M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. UT Police are actual police officers, not security guards, and provide security to all the UT buildings and property.
 
Recreation Center
The health science center offers a full-service health and recreation center. This Web site will provide you with information about the center's services, how to join, hours of operation, etc., or call the center at 713-500-8420.
 
Travel
The health science center contracts with a full service travel agent for make travel arrangements - domestic and international. The Web site includes information regarding university policies related to travel, rental cars, and other information relating to travel.
