Gorfe Bio

Dr Gorfe joined the University of Texas Medical School at Houston in 2009 as an assistant professor of Integrative Biology and Pharmacology, and promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2014. He earned his PhD degree in Biochemistry from the University of Zurich, Switzerland, and MSc in Chemistry from the University Tromsoe, Norway. He did his postdoctoral training in Computational Structural Biology with Prof. Amedeo Caflisch at the University of Zurich and in Computational Chemistry with Prof. J. Andrew McCammon at the University of California, San Diego. Dr Gorfe is the recipient of an outstanding doctoral thesis award from the Faculty of Mathematical and Physical Science of the University of Zurich in 2003, the “Young Academics of the University Zurich” postdoctoral training fellowship (2005-2007) and a scholarship from the University of Tromsoe (1997-1999), and Dean's Teaching Excellence Award (2013). In addition to his appointment at the Medical School, Dr Gorfe is a faculty member of the UT Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and an adjunct faculty member of the School of Biomedical Informatics. He is affiliated with several Houston area Computational, Biophysical and Biomedical Research Centers. His research is supported by grants form the National Instritutes of Health and other agencies.
