  • Register online (it's free!) for the state-wide TMA Summit Meeting in Austin (Fri 9/16 - Sat 9/17) - no exam conflicts for MS2s, but exam conflicts for MS1s. Instructions: Section 1: fill out completely; Section 2: check the "Texas resident, student, fellow - Free" box; Section 3: enter "1" lunch ticket for "TMA Member" on Saturday 9/17; Section 4: only check off "TMA Section Meetings --> MSS Business Meeting"; Click "Submit"
  • Meeting schedule
  • If you have registered for this meeting and would like the Chapter to arrange your housing (i.e. we will pay for it; 3-4 students per room), email Chapter President by no later than 9/12/05. Only housing arranged by the Chapter will be reimbursed.
  • Carpools depart MSB at 1pm on Friday 9/16 (only carpools with 3+ students will be reimbursed for gas). Email Internal VP if you'd like to volunteer to drive for the carpool.

If you are interested in serving on the Medical Student Section Executive Council (EC) in the upcoming year, please submit a letter of intent and your curriculum vitae or résumé to Ashley King by Jan. 20, 2006! All available positions are listed below. Elections will take place during the TMA-MSS Winter Conference business meeting on Saturday, Feb. 4, in Austin. Any TMA member is welcome to apply and is encouraged to take advantage of these leadership opportunities. With the exception of the position noted below, all offices officially begin after TexMed 2006. If you have any questions about a position, don’t hesitate to contact Ashley King or your current TMA-MSS Executive Council members. The offices up for election (seven positions) are: Chair, Vice chair, Reporter, TMA delegate co-leaders (two positions - will assume duties immediately after Winter Conference), and AMA delegate co-leaders (two positions).

In addition, the TMA-MSS EC will interview candidates for the following appointments. Please also submit applications to Ashley King by Jan. 20, 2006. The EC will interview all candidates on the evening of Feb. 3, 2006. Offices up for appointment (two positions) are: TMA Board of Trustees special appointee and Alternate delegate on the Texas Delegation to the AMA.

Make sure to check-off Business Meeting under "Section Meetings --> Medical Student Section" as well as to request a ticket for the FREE lunch on 2/4. Make a Difference as a Volunteer at TMA Foundation's Benefit!!! The TMA Foundation is looking for medical students and residents to volunteer at Making a World of Difference, its thirteenth annual gala benefit. In exchange, volunteers will receive a ticket to the event, along with many opportunities to mix and mingle with board members and officers from TMA, TMA Foundation and TMA Alliance.
  • What you'll be doing: Working guest registration, monitoring silent auction items, processing bid sheets, or collecting purchases for auction winners.
  • What the event entails: Silent Auction, Dinner, Dancing, and Entertainment
  • More than 500 physicians, their spouses and corporate guests are expected to attend this event for the philanthropic arm of TMA.
  • When: Friday, May 5, 2006, 5pm-11pm; Volunteers will be divided into two shifts (early and late)
  • Where:  Hilton Americas Hotel, Houston, Texas

Apply to serve on or lead a Convention Committee at the national AMA Annual Meeting in Chicago (Thurs 6/8 - Sat 6/10) - no previous experience necessary! Serving on a Convention Committee during the conference is a great way to help run the meeting as well as to meet medical students from across the nation. The Committees include: Community Service Committee, Credentials Committee, HOD Coordination Committee, Hospitality Committee, Logistics and Resources Committee, Parliamentary Procedures Committee, Reference Committee, and Rules Committee. Register online (it's free!) for the state-wide TMA TexMed Meeting in Houston (Thurs 5/4 - Sat 5/6). This is the largest of the TMA's three annual meetings and a great learning and networking opportunity! If you're planning on going to the AMA Annual Meeting in Chicago, TMA TexMed provides a great foundation. Opportunities specifically for medical students include TMA-MSS Business Meeting, statwide community service project on Saturday (at the Houston Museum of Natural Science), a membership recruitment training, and much more!

  • Register online (it's free!) for the national AMA Annual Meeting in Chicago (Thurs 6/8 - Sat 6/10). You MUST be an AMA member in order to attend this meeting. Check your membership status here. If you are not an AMA member and would like to join, contact the MSSOP Recruiter. Instructions: Click on "General Attendee Registration Form" and fill out the form. If you have registered for this meeting and would like the Chapter to partially subsidize your housing (i.e. we will pay for it; 2-3 students per room) and/or flight, then you MUSt email the Chapter President by no later than 5/5/06. Only housing and flights arranged by the Chapter will be partially subsidized.
