Jan'09 - Jan'10 Chapter Officers (elected annually in January)
|
Kimberly Hawthorne, MSII |
I was raised in Garland, TX and attended Texas Christian
University for my undergraduate education. I earned a BS in Biology and
also a minor in both Spanish and Chemistry. While at TCU I served on
the executive council of my sorority for two years, volunteered at Cook
Children's Hospital, and worked on an outcome study in child psychiatry at
Children's Hospital in Dallas in conjunction with the psychiatry faculty of
UT Southwestern. I enjoy relaxing by a pool, taking my dauchsund
puppies for walks, and spending time with close friends and family. I
have a special interest in pediatric healthcare issues and I look forward to
serving our school as Chapter Chair of the UT-Houston AMA/TMA Chapter. |

Internal VP (TMA) |
Kristin Luong, MSII |
I grew up in Katy, Texas and graduated from The University
of Texas at Austin with a BS in Psychology. After college, I worked as a
clinical research coordinator in Anesthesiology. While I'm still undecided on
a future specialty, I am pretty sure I want to work with kids. I enjoy
spending free time with my family, friends, and my cat, Tonka. I am very
excited about serving as the Internal VP of the UT-Houston AMA/TMA, and I
hope to involve more of our class with chapter activities. |

Treasurer |
Henry Huang, MSII |
I was born in college station, Texas, moved to Taiwan when
I was 5 and stayed there until I moved back to Austin for high school. I went
to Washington University in St. Louis for my undergraduate career. I
graduated with a BS in Biology. I was heavily involved in Taiwanese Student
Organization, Asian Multicultural Council, and was a 4 year
choreographer/performer for the Lunar New Years Festival. In my spare time I
like to play basketball and salsa. Currently, I serve as the treasurer of the
AMA/TMA and are excited to bring my experience from my undergraduate to
UTHSC. |

MSIII |
I was born and raised in Friendswood, Texas
and graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of St. Thomas with a BA in
psychology in 2006. I am currently
pursuing a career in Emergency Medicine, love spending time with my husband
and 2 year old son, and am extremely passionate about educating and
motivating underprivileged inner city youth.
During the past few years, I have gained experience in this area while
working with the HISD school system, mentoring delinquent youth at the HC Juvenile
Justice Center, and volunteering at homeless projects. I am honored to be selected as an Event
Chair, and plan to host some awesome events that spread awareness and really
make a difference! |

AMA Delegate 2 |

I grew up in the small town of Baird, TX and attended
Texas A&M University upon completion of high school. While at
A&M I was active in various philanthropies, my sorority, and a liver
toxicology research lab. I graduated from A&M in 2006 with a B.S.
in Biomedical Science and then worked as a medical assistant in a plastic and
reconstructive surgery practice before matriculating into medical school at
UT-Houston. In my free time I enjoy playing tennis, volunteering, and
spending time with family and friends. It was an honor to serve as the
UT-Houston AMA/TMA Chapter President last year and I look forward to serving
as an AMA Delegate this year. |

AMA Alternate Delegate
|
Stephen Fisher, MSII |
I grew up in Bedford, TX and graduated from Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, OK with a BS in Biochemistry in 2008. During my undergraduate years at SNU I spent time in the cloud forest of Costa Rica studying the Lauraceae family of trees, which are important for the local ecosystem. During the summers between college years I worked in the operating room at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, TX. Currently I am a second year medical student, researching in a neuroimaging lab with a specific interest in using functional MRI to predict laterality of working memory in pre-operative surgical patients. I volunteer at the HOMES clinic where Houston’s homeless population can receive free basic health care and other services. I have also served as our chapter’s Alternate Delegate to the national AMA-MSS meeting and look forward to serving on the TMA Council on Scientific Affairs this coming year. |

TMA Delegate & UT-Houston |
Michael Weisbruch, MSII |
I was born and raised in Dallas, TX and graduated from
Franciscan University of Steubenville (Ohio) in 2004. For the past four
years, I worked as a hotel concierge for the Four Seasons in Irving, TX.
My wife and I have been married for four and a half years, and we have
three beautiful children. I have a tremendous interest in the politics
of medicine, and I am excited for the opportunity both to represent our
school to the TMA as well as learn more about the political environment and
procedures that will affect our careers as physicians. |
