:: ACTIVITIES ::

BLUE BOOK SERIES:

AMWA has been approved for Blue Book credit. Members must attend at least 6 of 9 meetings AND participate in a service project (Bake Sale/Race for the Cure or battered women's shelter).  Attendance at our officer election meeting in May will not qualify for blue book credit. 

SERVICE PROJECTS:

Battered Women’s Shelter project  - New this year!  On February 7, from noon till 4 p.m, we will volunteer at a local shelter with AMWA’s mission to improve women’s health at our forefront.  The details of this service will be updated soon.  Interested in volunteering?  Contact Shelley or Bernice.
Race for the Cure (completed)– October 4, 2008 marks the 18th anniversary of the Komen Houston Race for the Cure®.  Our chapter will continue volunteering at this breast cancer fundraiser this year and will also form a team for the race.  Want to get involved?  Contact Michelle.
Senior Prom– This is a potential service project where we would organize a "mini senior prom" at a local nursing home.

FUNDRAISERS:

Bake Sale (completed) – September 30, 2008, the day before cancer awareness month kicks off, has been scheduled for our annual “save the tatas” bake sale.  The creativity of AMWA’s finest is displayed as baked goods are designed to resemble “tatas.”  Expert baker or wanting to help with this fundraiser?  Contact Michelle.         
Mr. UT Med Man Pageant (completed) – Yes, you read that correctly.  Traditionally, AMWA focuses on the women, but at this event… it’s ALL ABOUT THE MEN!  On November 7, 2008, we’ll feature male students trying to bring sexy back as they stride down the catwalk and one is named “Mr. UT Med 2008.”  Tickets will go on sale in October and proceeds will benefit our service projects in the spring.  Mark your calendars for this event that you won’t want to miss!  Check out our advertisement video.  Are you an AMWA member wanting to volunteer?  Contact Renee.

SHADOW PROGRAM:

AMWA has connections with some of the top female docs in several specialties within the Texas Medical Center. These physicians welcome AMWA students to come and shadow them to get a day's view of their area of medicine. If you're interested in shadowing and are an AMWA member, e-mail Renee and indicate your name, telephone number, and class year.
