All residents are given an opportunity to rotate through the Orthopaedic Anesthesia in Memorial Hermann Hospital, The Roger Clemens Institute for Sports Medicine & Human Performance and Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital hospital. Anesthesia strategies range from the critically ill trauma patients to safe and effective delivery of anesthetic care to Day Surgery Patients.

Memorial Hermann Hospital is one of the largest Level One trauma centers in the nation, thereby allowing residents to participate in providing safe and effective anesthesia care to orthopaedic trauma which encompasses spinal fractures, acetabulum and pelvic fractures and multiple extremity fractures. This includes patient with unstable cervical spine requiring advanced airway management techniques and advance fluid and coagulation management strategies.

The Division of Orthopaedic Anesthesia also serves a large patient population requiring total joint replacement, adult spine surgery, elective orthopaedic trauma surgery, sports medicine and hand surgery. The division includes regional anesthesiologists trained in the delivery of state-of-the-art neuroaxial and peripheral nerve blocks for improved patient care.
