Fellowships in the Department of Anesthesiology
Cardiovascular and Thoracic Fellowship
The supervising CV Faculty are all Fellowship trained. The CV faculty are:

The Fellowship Directors will meet with fellows every three months to assess progress.
The program is set up as a one year training period, with full exposure to complex aortic, vascular, cardiac and vulvular cases. Approximately six months of the fellowship occurs at Memorial Hermann-TMC, while the other six months occurs at Methodist Hospital TMC.
A dedicated month is spent in the echo lab, under the supervision of experienced cardiologists at Memorial Hermann-TMC. An intraoperative TEE training month occurs at Methodist Hospital.
In addition to adult cardiac procedures, fellows will participate in Congenital Pediatric Cardiac procedures.
Research opportunities abound, with ongoing projects such as; renal protection, blood conservation research, neuroprotection mechanisms, regional anesthesia for vascular surgery, use of ultrasound technologies in cardiovascular anesthesia.
In addition to clinical and research responsibilities, fellows will be expected to participate in resident education, CV journal club and grand round presentations.
Upon completion of the Fellowship, successful Fellows will have achieved the ability to function at a consultant level among their peers and to manage complex cardiovascular and thoracic procedures. Additionally fellows with have proficiency in basic transesophageal echo examination with the ability to obtain Advanced Perioperative TEE certification.
