 Fellowships in the Department of Anesthesiology
Cardiovascular and Thoracic Fellowship
The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston offers an ACGME accredited 1 year fellowship in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Anesthesiology. We provide exposure to advanced surgical procedures including heart and lung transplants both open and endovascular major vascular and aortic procedures, cardiac catherization lab procedures including TAVI and PVI ablations, and congenital cardiac repairs. Also included in the curriculum is training with transesophageal echocardiography and anesthesiology CCU intensivists.
Critical Care Fellowship
It is our objective to train the future leaders in the field of Critical Care Anesthesiology. The faculty help guide and instruct our fellows to develop the clinical judgment and advanced skills necessary to perform as an attending intensivist upon completion of this program. ICUs are staffed by a multidisciplinary team of physicians, ethicists, pharmacists, dieticians, physiotherapists, respiratory technicians, advanced nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and medical students. It is our hope that you will consider becoming a part of our dynamic critical care team.
Neuroanesthesia Fellowship
The University of Texas Medical School at Houston in the Texas Medical Center. Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center is one of the largest Level One trauma centers in the nation and the largest stroke center in the city. The fellow will be exposed to various types of intracranial and spine procedures including aneurysm clippings, AVMs, tumor resections, as well as neurointerventional procedures, elective and emergent. Current procedural caseloads average 1800 per year. The neuroanesthesia fellow will also rotate in neuro-ICU. Research Opportunities: Two months are exclusive to research and a publication is highly recommended. Rotations include: Main Operating Room, Neuro IR, and Neuro ICU. Start dates are July or August 2011.

Pediatric Anesthesia Fellowship
The goal of our 12-month program at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital is to provide the trainee with a comprehensive experience to allow for acquiring skills and knowledge necessary to provide the most excellent care for all children during the perioperative period.
Regional Anesthesia Fellowship
Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center is one of the largest Level One trauma centers in the nation, thereby allowing this regional program to emphasize all aspects of regional anesthesia. The fellow will be exposed to various types of peripheral nerve blocks, as well as placement of indwelling catheters for postoperative pain management using both nerve stimulation and 2D ultrasound. The program will be a one-year (12 month) fellowship.
