PURPOSE To promote dissemination of knowledge in the fields of cognitive neuroscience and clinical neuropsychology; to promote formation of professional bonds among future and current leaders in these fields from across the world; to promote the in-depth study of fundamental questions in these fields and seek solutions under conditions that optimize such academic pursuits. The practical consequences of these endeavors are expected to include advancement in our conceptions of (a) the neurophysiological mechanisms of sensory, motor and higher psychological functions, (b) the pathophysiology of deficits in these functions, (c) mechanisms of their restitution, treatment and approaches to rehabilitation.
Starting in the year 2002, up to seventy-five graduate student fellows and up to twenty outstanding scientists with international recognition from American, European, Asian, African, and Australian institutions of higher learning will be selected annually to participate in the institute, according to rules established by the Institute Director, and an Executive Committee appointed by the President and Board of Governors of the International Neuropsychological Society (INS).
