"I enjoyed myself as well - it was one great experience!!! I learned so much during the course especially regarding the neuroscience (considering that I am linguists!) That was also great opportunity to meet other students (from other countries) and to find out how they learn and carry out some experiments at their universities! I hope, if there will be that kind of possibility, to participate again next year and extend my knowledge more!" –Yugoslavia"As regards the courses, I believe that most of us were really satisfied by the variety being offered and the scientific matters that have been issued. The divergent audience made courses even more interesting, as every student made his own contribution to the lectures." –Greece
"The whole environment created such an atmosphere of companionship that most all felt very close. That made it too hard to say good-bye on the last day. ... this experience will result, for sure, in many projects and cooperative work in the future. For instance, I received an invitation to participate in a two days conferences in Copenhagen in next December, and to be a part of a group of cross-cultural neuropsychology. I still can't believe it! I've been fruitlessly looking for this opportunity during the last two years and I got it just because of these seminars." –Argentina
"The month in Greece was a fabulous experience and I shall always treasure my memories of it. Overall I was extremely impressed with the organization of the institute. It is obvious that a lot of planning went into making it a success. The location was great, the hotel was wonderful and the courses were very interesting." –USA
"The Institute was great. It has been a lovely experience. It was a pity that you must leave, but Xylokastro and the people were the best. I think that the organization has been very well done, and I'm too very grateful to everyone." –Spain
"I have to say, that it was a great, wonderful experience for me. I am happy I could be there and participate in this event. I liked everything there." –Poland
"I should say the Summer Institute was an extremely good experience to me. What I enjoyed the most was the outside-the-classroom discussions with faculty and participants during the siesta hours. I was able to develop networks for my research projects. ... I am hopeful of keeping this network intact for a long time to come." –USA
"It goes without saying that I really enjoyed the summer institute! What I found most fascinating was the opportunity to be exposed to several parallel aspects of the general field of "language and the brain" and thus form a more integrated perspective on the matter. It was great to be taught directly by "the experts", so different to just learning from books and articles. I also enjoyed meeting people from all over the world and being able to discuss and share information (sometimes even argue!) with them." –Greece
"As for the Seminar, it gave us the opportunity to meet many people and change ideas concerning not only the subject of this seminar, but scientific research in general. Participating in the Seminar helped me broaden my knowledge on the current developments in contemporary neuropsychology of language, by taking part in scientific discussions and by exchanging ideas with other scientists. The courses were taught in an interactive way, so that we felt like constructing our knowledge on our own, by critically thinking, arguing and finding the answers." –Greece
"I found the course program to be excellent, relating directly to my research. I have made friends from all over the world who are studying in my area, so I am looking forward to meeting them at conferences and in different labs around the world. Xylocastro, Greece, was a great location for the Institute because it is a local holiday spot and not a main tourist destination. The small town feeling of Xylocastro made it easy to meet the local people and practice a bit of Greek." –New Zealand
"Thank you very much for all the work you have been doing. I enjoyed myself a lot during the school."
–Canada
"I very much enjoyed the experience and would definitely go again." –New Zealand
"The INS Summer Institute provided a great learning opportunity that went beyond what is experienced in the traditional classroom. Professors engaged students in dialogue and often encouraged them to offer insights and perspectives about how the topic being discussed was viewed/experienced in the student's country of origin. Since the students represented 22 different countries, this method added a great cross-cultural dimension and richness to the discussion. It was also very enriching to discuss issues common to all Neuropsychology trainees and linguists informally outside of the classroom. Whether we talked about neuropsychology, personal philosophies and ideologies or simply what we enjoyed eating and drinking, we learned much about our cross-cultural "similarities" and our collective desires and interest in humanity."
–USA
"In brief, the institute was superb and I have no hesitation in supporting future institutes and recommending it to colleagues. The objectives of facilitating professional liaison and providing an international forum for discussion of clinical and research issues were well achieved, and a highlight. ... The friendships formed between participants were quite unique." –Australia
"The planners of the 1st VS Summer Institute are to be commended. Considering that the venue was in a foreign country and this was the 1st institute, I was impressed. ... I just want to say "thanks" to you and all of the other folks who planned this outstanding learning opportunity. I am ever so grateful to have been selected. My courses were great, the opportunity to interact with students and faculty was outstanding, and people of Xylocastro were welcoming and so gracious." –USA
"Overall, I feel that this summer programme was very well designed & beautifully planned. I had an excellent time. It was a most memorable experience." –Australia
"... the Institute was a fantastic experience both academically and socially. To me it was truly inspiring to meet both teachers and students from almost all over the world, and be able to exchange knowledge, ideas and opinions with them over a period of time. To discuss matters relating to my work and theirs, and to almost all other fields of neuropsychology and science in general in both the formal setting of the classes, and the more informal gatherings throughout the summer school. ... Young neuropsychologists from different parts of the world are able to connect with each other, and to develop a more international frame of reference for their work. 2. Students of neuropsychology get a unique opportunity to personally meet the grand old men and women of their field, and to learn from their experience and thoughts in a way very different from only reading their work or communicating electronically. (And I believe that the members of the Faculty also appreciated, and were inspired by the hearing the students questions and views.)" –Denmark
"... I enjoyed it a lot and i think it was well organized and conducted - both as an advanced education opportunity and as a vacation. The lectures were various and covered many aspects of language representation -and each lecturer had his own area of expertise, so most of the issues didn't overlap."
–Israel
"As for the institute, I think Xylocastro was a wonderful place to have it. The people were wonderful almost over the top nice. I think a small resort town for Athenians was a great place as it afforded us the opportunity to see more of Greek culture and learn more of the language than if we were staying in a town that was used to English speaking people. ... it was a wonderful experience that I will cherish" –USA
