ATHENS URBAN TRANSPORT ORGANIZATION

 

Athens Urban Transport Organization serves the Greater Athens area with 1,500 buses, 300 trolley buses and 3 metro lines. More than 1.9 million passengers use the system on working days. Public transport in Athens is frequent and integrated services are provided throughout the city.

 

 

FARES:

 

Buses & Trolley Buses:

 

The standard ticket for buses and trolley buses costs 150 drs. (euro 0.44) and it is valid for one trip only. Tickets are sold, one or in a carnet of 10, at the yellow or blue kiosks of the Athens Urban Transport Organization, which are located close to the terminals of most lines and at the metro stations of lines 2 and 3. Tickets are also available at many public kiosks.

 

 

Athens Metro:

 

The metro network consists of three lines:

M1 KIFISIA – PEIRAIAS (port)

M2 SEPOLIA – DAFNI

M3 ETHNIKI AMYNA – SYNTAGMA

 

The standard ticket of 250 drs. (euro 0.73) allows you to travel in all lines (any transfer from one line to another is permitted) in one direction. The ticket is valid for 90 minutes from the time of its validation. The ticket of 200 drs. (euro 0.59) allows you to travel only within one or two subsequent zones of line M1.  Tickets for the metro can be purchased only at the metro stations.

 

 

Airport Ticket and 24-Hour Ticket:

 

The ticket price for the airport express lines is 1000 drs (euro 2.93). It allows for unlimited travel by all transport modes (bus, trolley, metro) from the time of its validation during first trip (validate only once).  It can also be used, irrespective of traveling to/from the airport, as a daily ticket by those who wish to explore the city using public transport.

The ticket can be purchased from the drivers of the airport buses, at all metro stations and at the yellow or blue ticket kiosks of the Athens Public Transport Network.

Please remember:

*Validate your ticket by inserting it into the validating machines as soon as you board on the vehicle or you enter a metro station.

*Keep it safe till the end of your trip. Otherwise, you may be given an on-the-spot fine ranging from 6.000 to 10.000 drs.

*In Athens urban public transport network children under the age of six travel free.
