Compact with The University of Texas System
Fiscal Years 2009-2010

Process Overview

Our Commitment to Accountability

UTHSC-H Mission and Vision

UTHSC-H FY 2009-2010 Compact with The University of Texas System

UT System Approval Letter

In 2004, U.T. System Chancellor Mark Yudof called on each component president to develop and submit an inaugural Compact, or written agreement, for fiscal years 2005 and 2006. This Compact was developed in accordance with the health science center's mission and vision with input from senior staff and councils representing students, faculty and staff.

Included here is a draft of UTHSC-H's fourth annual Compact covering fiscal years 2009 and 2010. This draft lays out institutional priorities in the areas of facilities and infrastructure, research and educational excellence, institutional advancement, and the recruitment and retention of outstanding students, faculty and staff. Following each priority is a series of related objectives and strategies, available financial resources, progress measures, progress to date, and any major obstacles that may impede success. This draft was submitted to Chancellor Yudof in June 2008 with final submission approved in October 2008.

This is a living document that will allow the health science center to: respond to market forces; increase efficiency, quality, and productivity; and enhance services to students and communities. The institutional Strategic Planning/Compact Leadership Team reviews this document quarterly to ensure that the university stays on target for achieving its priorities. Planning for the FY 2010-2011 Compact began in March 2009.

This Compact with The University of Texas System belongs to all of us. It is a roadmap that will guide the health science center as it looks ahead toward the development of a longer term strategic plan. Since its priorities impact the future of our educational, research and clinical programs it is vital to all of us who teach, study, research, and provide administrative support at this institution.

It is our responsibility to implement the terms of the Compact and to achieve the future it envisions. It requires input and support from all of us who are a part of this institution. It is a clear mandate for continuous participation and committed performance. To make the Compact work for each of us will need to:

  • Stay informed
  • Participate in the process
  • Do our best at each of our assignments
  • Work with others to achieve our mission and vision with "excellence above all."
