
Clinical Facilities
The Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery has an affiliate arrangement with the Memorial Hermann Heart & Vascular Institute, where the surgical procedures are performed.
The Institute features a continuum of heart and vascular care including complete cardiothoracic and vascular surgery facilities, a chest pain center, invasive and non-invasive cardiology and peripheral intervention services, and cardiac rehab.
The Institute, which opened in March 2008, is the state's most modern heart facility. The 230,000 square-foot facility houses 147 patient beds, including a 20-bed short-stay unit, a Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit, a Cardiology Care Unit and six cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology labs, as well as access to 11 VIP suites with hotel services and library area.

Successes and resources of the Institute include:
- The Weatherhead PET Center, the first and only institution in the world dedicated to preventing and reversing coronary heart disease
- The first center in the world to perform robotic reconstructive aortic surgery
- The first hospital in Texas to give patients clot dissolving drugs to stop heart attacks
- Houston's first preventive cardiology training program
- Site for the foundation of nuclear cardiology
