Peer Review and Editorial
Refinement
Traditionally, scholarly works have been enhanced by established principles
of selection, peer-review and editorial refinement. The imprimatur of university
presses on their publications denotes that these principles have been applied
to their creation. This imprint is generally controlled by an editorial
board comprised of faculty and occasionally other individuals from outside
the university. Thus, the imprimatur can be relied upon as an indicator
of academic contributions by academic leaders considering the scholarly
production of faculty for guidance in tenure, promotion, and salary decisions
.
Peer review of the U.T. Houston Electronic Press is the responsibility
of an editorial board comprised of U.T. Houston faculty. Following submission,
the the work will be assigned to two or more experts in the subject area
for review. At least one positive evaluation of each work must be obtained
from a reviewer outside the parent institution of the author for a work
to be accepted for publication.
