Research

The health science center’s research enterprise continues to gain momentum in fulfilling our mission to become a leading research institution in North America. The statistics support this ideal, as shown in charts representing our research expenditures, National Institutes of Health awards, and the number of journal publications faculty have authored. Research expenditures have grown significantly over the past 10 years, an overall increase of 89.4 percent. Our NIH award recipient ranking nationally for 2003 was 56th of 534 higher education institutions that receive NIH funding.

Our reputation precedes us; we are home to an extensive range of experts in scientific discovery. Much research is pursued in collaboration with other faculty members in the health science center, across the Texas Medical Center and at other national and international institutions searching to solve the health care problems around the globe.
