Unsponsored Charity Care 2006

a Definition: Total dollar amount of indigent patient charges (facility charges) provided in hospitals and clinics contracted with or owned, operated, and funded by the health-related institutions during the reporting period.
b Definition: The total dollar amount of gross patient charges for unsponsored charity care provided through faculty physician practice plans (i.e., MSRDP) during the reporting period.

Note:
The Legislative Budget Board defines “unsponsored charity care” as unreimbursed costs for services to the financially or medically indigent. This definition does not include the costs of contractual adjustments for Medicare or commercial insurance contracts or bad debts for uncollected billed charges to patients who do not qualify for unsponsored charity care.
