Memorial Hermann Healthcare System The heritage of Memorial Hermann spans nearly 100 years of Houston’s history. Originally two separate entities that began in the early part of the 20th century, the Memorial and Hermann hospitals joined forces in the late 1990s. The founding fathers of Memorial and Hermann were both extraordinary visionaries who created a legacy of caring that continues to thrive today. Memorial Hermann is Texas’ largest not-for-profit healthcare system and has grown into a comprehensive healthcare system including 3,188 licensed beds spread over nine acute care hospitals, three long-term acute care hospitals, three specialty care facilities, 19 regional affiliates, and three managed acute care facilities. It also includes one retirement and nursing center and one home health agency. Founded in 1925, Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center was the first hospital to open in the world-renowned Texas Medical Center. For nearly a century, the hospital has set new standards of care in Texas and the nation through advances in the practice of medicine. As the primary teaching hospital for the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, Memorial Hermann provides exceptional care in heart, neuroscience, sports medicine and orthopedics, children’s and women’s health, general surgery and organ transplantation. The Texas Medical Center campus includes Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital and Memorial Hermann|TIRR.
