Preface Research |
The health science center’s research enterprise continues to gain momentum in fulfilling our mission to become a leading research institution in North America. The statistics support this ideal, as shown in charts representing our research expenditures (page 100) and National Institutes of Health awards (page 107). Research expenditures have grown significantly over the past 10 years, an overall increase of 80 percent. In 2006, the NIH selected UTHSC-H as one of only twelve recipients for the inaugural Clinical and Translational Science Award. UTHSC-H’s new Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences is the only NIH-funded Center in Texas.
We are home to an extensive range of experts in scientific discovery. Much research is pursued in collaboration with other faculty members in the health science center, across the Texas Medical Center and at other national and international institutions searching to solve the health care problems around the globe.
