Dental Branch
NOTE: Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery residents are not included in the Dental Branch’s Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board-certified enrollment count (see on page 76) as they do not register in courses or pay tuition.

The UTHSC-H Postgraduate School of Dentistry is composed of three types of students:
postgraduate, graduate, and resident.
A postgraduate student is a dentist registering and paying tuition and fees for courses leading
to a certificate in advanced general dentistry or a dental specialty area.
A graduate student is a dentist registering and paying tuition and fees for courses leading
to a master of science degree and a certificate in advanced general dentistry or a dental specialty area.
A resident is a dentist who receives training in a specialty area, is paid a stipend, and who receives
a certificate of completion. Residents do not register in courses, nor do they pay tuition.
