The University of Texas System is required by state law to supply benefits eligible employees with a mandated benefits package. This package is called the Basic Coverage Package. The State of Texas and The University of Texas System pays the entire premium cost of the Basic Coverage Package.
The Basic Coverage Package includes insurance coverage only for the employee and is called “Subscriber Only Coverage.” There is no out-of-pocket premium cost to employees for the Basic Coverage Package.
Optional benefits must be elected within 31 days of your hire date. If optional benefits are not elected during this time you must wait until Annual Enrollment to elect coverage. Employees may elect to waive medical coverage and receive half the subscriber only premium sharing amount to purchase optional coverage offered by the University.
