David Volk, Ph.D., joined the University of Texas Health Science Center Houston (UTHSC-H) in January 2009 as a Research Scientist following a 12 year career at the Sealy Center for Structural Biology & the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department of the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, TX and a post-doctoral position at Duke University Medical Center. He has nearly 20 years experience using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy to elucidate the structures of small organic chemicals, DNA strands and proteins. His research interests are generally related to human health and structural biology, and past work has included the study of cancer-causing DNA mutations, flavivrirus structures, immune regulation, DNA synthesis, quantum chemistry and Lewis acid-mediated stereochemistry.
