The 2012 GSEC Poster Competition will be held on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Leather Lounge of the Medical School Building.
Poster entries will be judged based on content, presentation and overall knowledge of the subject matter. (See attached Scoring Sheet [ pdf ].)
Order of presentation and judging assignments will be determined at a later date.
The deadline for abstract submission is Friday, January 20, 2012.
Please note: Winning poster entries from previous GSEC competitions will not be accepted.
Students may arrive between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on February 2 to post your entry in the leather lounge and register for the event. (Velcro, pushpins and tape will be provided). If this time slot is not suitable, please contact me via e-mail or by phone to make other arrangements.
We are asking that all participants arrive promptly at 12:45 p.m. for the competition. We request that you attend the entire event. Please make certain that you are stationed at your poster at the designated judging time.
In an effort to keep the noise to a minimum, please be considerate of the students giving presentations near you. Competition judging will take place from 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Winners will be announced at 3:30 p.m.
Please arrive promptly at 1:00 p.m. to receive your judging packet which will include: an abstract, scoring sheets and poster assignments.
The competition is divided into four - 30 minute rounds.
The students will be asked to limit their presentations to 20 minutes (15 minutes per presentation with 5 minutes for questions.)
Judging will be accomplished in groups of two as assigned. Judges will make individual assessments on the presentation without conferring with the other judge assigned to that poster. At the end of each round the judges will have 10 minutes to finalize scores, detach the perforated scoring sheet for that round and return the scoring sheets to the judging station.
At the conclusion of each round, the judges will return two separate scoring sheets to the coordinator at the judging station and wait for the next round to be announced. At that time you will proceed to the next poster assigned to you for review.
At the conclusion of Round 4, the scores will be tabulated by the coordinator to determine the top seven contestants.
In the event of a tie, the judges will confer collectively to determine the final placement order based on scores and presentations. At this time judges may ask students additional questions, or ask the student to give an abbreviated presentation.
Note: Judges will voluntarily recuse themselves from participating in Round 5 if a potential conflict exists.
At the conclusion of the tie breaker round, if necessary, the judges will complete and return only one scoring sheet per contestant to the judging station.
Winners will be announced at 3:30 p.m.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me prior to the event. Again, thank you for your participation.
