William E. Seifert, Jr., PhD

Dr. Seifert received his undergraduate degree from Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio.  He then attended Purdue University, where he obtained his Ph.D. from the Biochemistry Division of the Department of Chemistry.  His dissertation research was directed by Dr. Richard Caprioli.  In 1975, Dr. Seifert became part of the Analytical Chemistry Center and the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston.  He has been involved with medical student and graduate student education since 1978.  In 1999, he was appointed Senior Lecturer and course director for the biochemistry course for first-year medical students and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2009.  He also is course director for a new first-year MS course entitled Clinical Applications and the GSBS course Metabolic Biochemistry.  He participates as a small group facilitator in Introduction to Ethics and Professionalism (MS) and Ethical Dimensions of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS).

In 1987, Dr. Seifert was ordained as a permanent deacon for the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston and serves at Holy Family Parish in Missouri City, TX, where he is involved in adult faith formation and marriage preparation.
