Center Co-Sponsors Conference on Medical Ethics

A Medical Ethics Conference: Moral Dilemmas Facing Healthcare Professionals is scheduled for March 22 from 7:15 am — 12:15 pm. The McGovern Center is co-sponsoring this conference with the Institute for Spirituality and Health (ISH), St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, and Advanced Health Education Center.
The conference will include the following presentations:
- Richard Wainerdi, Ph.D., President Emeritus of the Texas Medical Center: "Making Ethical Choices in Professional Life";
- Baruch Brody, Ph.D., Leon Jaworski Professor of Biomedical Ethics and former director of the Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy at Baylor College of Medicine, and the Andrew Mellon Professor of Humanities in the Department of Philosophy at Rice University: "Can We Afford Healthcare at the End of Life?";
- Courtenay Bruce, J.D., M.A., Assistant Professor of Medicine and Medical Ethics, Baylor College of Medicine: "Health Care Professionals' Moral Distress"; and
- Sheldon Rubenfeld, M.D., Clinical Professor of Medicine, Baylor College of Medicine: "Euthanasia After the Holocaust".
Center Director, Dr. Thomas Cole, will participate as the moderator for a panel including Jewish, Christian, and Muslim clerics.
