Interprofessional Ethics Grand Rounds

In its second year, the Grand Rounds offer lectures and discussions of cases that have been encountered in the professional experiences of our guest speakers. The cases illustrate the ethical situations that can arise in day-to-day work and continue to be faced by health care professionals.

These grand rounds are interprofessional, bringing together faculty, staff, and students of the entire UTHealth community. We offer these lectures to those who are interested in hearing real-life cases and having the opportunity to discuss, review, and decide how they would personally deal with such a case.

In its first year, Grand Rounds in Clinical Ethics touched upon a wide variety of topics, including elder abuse and mistreatment, dealing with incapacitated professionals (e.g., nurses, doctors, etc.), futility of care in the ICU, and informatics and its current and future uses in health care. This year's series will again focus on the tough ethical issues found in various health care settings and situations.

For attendees, Continuing Medical Education and Continuing Nursing Education credits are available:

The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston designates the individual lecture activities that are part of these grand rounds for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. UTMB designates each of these educational activities for 1 hour of ethics/professionalism responsibility.

CNE 1.0: The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Nursing is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Texas Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
