Welcome, and thank you for choosing the
Sacred Vocation Program for your organization.
By having your organization participate in this program, you can facilitate transforming work in two ways: first, by changing the way people view their work in the context of their lives, and second, by changing the work environment to support work as a "sacred vocation."
The Sacred Vocation Program’s was originally developed and launched at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital (SLEH) in Houston, Texas. The program was created as a method to improve patient satisfaction at St. Luke’s Hospital. If we want employees to care for patients and be supportive of patients’ families, we need to care for the employee first and link their work to what gives meaning to them. We need to create an environment where work is considered a sacred vocation.
Through the Sacred Vocation Program we intend to help all employees create a more healing environment by the quality of their interaction with each other and with patients or clients.
The Sacred Vocation Program is a unique workplace intervention. Many other workplace interventions encourage participants to realize that the organization’s goals are the same as employee’s goals. The Sacred Vocation Program accomplishes the organizational goals of improved employee performance by nurturing the spirit of the employee. We facilitate group discussions among employees, allowing them to become more aware that doing their best work makes them feel more committed to their work.
By implementing the Sacred Vocation Program at your organization, you can create an enriching work environment, help employees find meaning in their work, and enhance the quality of work.
