The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston
Hosts Harvard Weatherhead Center Fellows
The Offices of International Programs and Public Affairs at The UT Health Science Center at Houston hosted a group of Harvard University Fellows from the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs in late January. The delegation included 18 international policy makers from all over the world such as senior diplomats and military officers, as well as politicians, journalists, civil servants, business leaders, and non-governmental officials.
Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs L. Maximilian Buja, MD welcomed the visitors. Hui-Ming Chang, MD, MPH (vice president for international programs and special advisor to the president) introduced the university. Denton A. Cooley, MD (president and founder of the Texas Heart Institute) spoke on the Texas Heart Institute, Edward T.H. Yeh, MD (professor and chairman, Department of Cardiology, The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center and professor of medicine and director of the Research Center for Cardiovascular Diseases at the Brown Foundation Institute of Molecular Medicine for the Prevention of Human Diseases) spoke on stem cell for myocardial regeneration, and Eric Boerwinkle, PhD (director of the Human Genetics Center at the Institute of Molecular Medicine and director of epidemiology at the School of Public Health) spoke about human genetics. The Program was followed by an evening reception in the President's Foyer.
Attendees included Harvard University fellows and administrators, the Institute of International Education, and the UT Health Science Center at Houston faculty and administrators from all six schools. |
