In 1991, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology was established with the purpose of creating a university that would advance the economic and social development of Hong Kong through teaching and research. Within just over a decade, the university has established itself as one of the top three universities in Hong Kong, and one of the most prestigious in the world. Set in Clear Water Bay, Hong Kong and stretching over 150-acres, the university currently enrolls over 8,000 students and 400 faculty members. The university holds a strong academic prominence in science, engineering and business that is known internationally.
Dr. Hui-Ming Chang, vice president for international programs, met with Dr. Paul Ching-Wu Chu, president of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and professor of University of Houston in May, 2002. Dr. Chu invited her to visit Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. She visited Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and gave a presentation on UTHSCH in June 2002. Several exchanges between Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and UTHSCH took place since. On April 5, 2005, President Paul Ching-Wu Chu visited UTHSC-H and signed the Agreement of Cooperation with President Willerson. |
