In February 2006, UTHSC-H in collaboration with the Texas Medical Center, Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau and Continental Airlines, welcomed a delegation of 10 newspaper and magazine journalists, editors and directors from throughout Central and South America.
The delegation included Rosa María Agudelo (Diario El Occidente, Colombia), Jorge Olazo Dávalos (Somos, Perú), Omaira De León (El Panamá América, Panamá), Milagros Durán (El Nacional, Venezuela), Henry Mejia León (La Prensa Gráfica, El Salvador), Sheyla Mosquera (El Universo, Ecuador), Lucia Navas (El Nuevo Diario, Nicaragua), Sonia Perilla (El Tiempo, Colombia), Sandra Valdéz (Siglo XXI, Guatemala), and MariCarmen Rello Velásquez (Público, México).
During their visit, in which they met with and toured various institutions in the Texas Medical Center, Hui-Ming Chang, MD, MPH presented an overview of UTHSC-H. The presentation was in both English and Spanish with Ms. Maribel Salazar acting as the translator. Karen Krakower (editor, HealthLeader, Office of Public Affairs) presented the HealthLeader and health-related resources in both English and Spanish. Darla Brown (director, Office of Communications, The University of Texas Medical School at Houston ) gave a guided tour of the medical school.
The visit was organized by the International Affairs Advisory Council. The group was escorted by Celia Morales (deputy director, Houston Image Group, Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau). |
