Peking University is a public institution located in Beijing, China and enrolls over 46,000 students. Peking University consists of 30 colleges and 12 departments. Ranked as the top, or one of the top two, university in China. Peking has laid strong support for basic sciences and shown special attention to the development of applied sciences with over 200 research institutes and research centers. UTHSC-H has had an agreement of cooperation with Peking University since 2000.
Dr. Hui-Ming Chang, vice president for international programs, visited Peking University Health Science Center and met with President and Vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Dr. Han Chide and Dr. Dong Zhe, professor and dean of international cooperation at Peking University in 2002. Delegations from Peking University visited UTHSC-H several times since including the delegation lead by Dr. Debing Wang, former party leader of Peking University.
On April 4, 2006, the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and the Office of International Programs welcomed Dr. Dong Zhe from Peking University of the People’s Republic of China.
A signing ceremony took place as President James T. Willerson, MD met with Dr. Dong and signed the renewal of the agreement of cooperation with Peking University.
Dean George M. Stancel, MD of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and Assistant Dean Victoria P. Knutson, PhD also met with Dr. Dong and discussed possible collaborations between the two universities and The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
