Hui Zhao is a PhD candidate with the University of Texas School of Public Health studying biostatistics. She first began her health research in China where she graduated with a medical degree from Qingdao Medical School and practiced as a pediatrician for several years. During this time she was inspired with the idea of preventing people from getting disease as opposed to treating it. So she decided to receive her Master of Science degree in epidemiology from University of Texas School of Public Health in 2002 and is a recipient of the 2006 International Program Award.
“I was very grateful to receive such an honor,” Hui claims as she explains her project. Hui is conducting research on smoking prevalence and smoking cessation training among Chinese healthcare providers. In her project, she hopes to advance the knowledge of smoking characteristics and help promote the essentialness of successful training programs. Hui will use a questionnaire developed by the Center for Disease Control and conduct the study among 3rd year medical students of the Medical School of Qingdao University in China.
Hui plans to use the award to help with travel expenses and the costs of the study, such as data collection and printing materials. She plans to carry out this study in the first week of June and conduct the study for two weeks. |
