2007 International Programs Award Recipients |

The Office of International Programs announces the winners for the 2007 International Programs Award. The award recognizes faculty and students of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston who actively engage in international academic collaborations.
The International Programs Award was established in 2005 by means of a generous donation from a benefactor, in the desire to encourage academic projects that promote exchanges of health sciences on a global perspective. Award selection is conducted by a committee of faculty from all six schools of UTHSC-H. The committee ranks the applications according to the project’s rationale, perceived benefits for the applicant and UTHSC-H, and the overall impact of the work. While the projects varied in subject, they all shared the common goal of international collaborations between various constituencies of UTHSC-H and academic institutions of higher learning throughout the world. This year’s winners include projects in New Zealand, United Kingdom, India, China, and Latin America to name a few. The winners are:

“This year’s decisions were exceptionally difficult, I would like to thank members of the International Programs Award Committee for their hard work in reviewing all applications,” said Hui-Ming Chang, MD, MPH, vice president for international programs and special advisor to the president. Winners will utilize the awarded funds towards projects, such as an exchange program with University of Auckland, research collaboration with University of Cardiff, childhood obesity research in New Delhi, an educational meeting for key Latin American researchers and bio-ethicists, and study on the prevalence of Tuberculosis in Limpopo Province, South Africa.
With this award, the Office of International Programs hopes to provide funding to valuable advancements of international collaboration and increase the individual and collective awareness of international programs. The Office of International Programs looks forward to continuing this award in the future and encourages more to apply. |
