Application Process for New Training Programs

ALL NEW programs: All new training programs (ACGME, TMB, Specialty Board, Societies, etc.) must complete the Request for New Training Program Form found at Request for New Training Program. The deadlines associated with new program applications are set forth on the top of the form. The completed and signed form should be returned to Jacqueline Brooks in the GME Office - JJL 310. The request will be scheduled for an upcoming GME Committee Meeting.

The process for applying for applying for a new ACGME Program requires the completion of the ACGME Program Information Form (PIF).

In applying for a new ACGME Program, there are several things to keep in mind.

  1. New ACGME programs are approved by the respective ACGME Residency Review Committee (RRC).
  2. RRC's only meet two – three times a year. It is important that planning for a new program is started well in advance of a proposed start date.
  3. Each RRC lists agenda deadlines on their website. Typically the agenda deadline is two months before the RRC meeting. However, many RRC's request that you call the RRC for new program application due dates.
  4. In addition to the RRC deadline, the UTHealth GME Office requires sufficient time to review the application materials. The deadline for submitting a PIF to the GME Office is three months before the PIF is due to the RRC.
  5. The PIF is reviewed by at least three different persons in the GME Office including the DIO and the GME Director. Several drafts may be necessary before the DIO will sign the PIF.
