We
offer a Child Neurology Residency Program that is composed of two years
training with the General Pediatrics Residency
Program faculty
and three years with the Child Neurology faculty. The program will also
accept residents at the PGY 3 level with prior training at
another institution. The Child Neurology Residency offers extensive in-patient
and out-patient clinical experience, didactic programs and research opportunities.
The
residency takes place primarily at Memorial
Herman Children's Hospital.
Your training program can be customized to meet your individual career
goals in clinical or academic practice. The American Board of Psychiatry
and Neurology requires that you complete a minimum of two years of general
pediatrics residency or one year of pediatric residency, plus one year
of internal medicine residency to become certified in neurology with
special qualification in child neurology. After completing two years
of
pediatric training, you will be board-eligible in both pediatrics and neurology,
with special qualification in child neurology.
If you complete one year each of internal medicine and pediatrics, you will be
eligible only for neurology certification with special qualification in child
neurology by the ABPN. More information about the program may be found at their web
site.
