  Adult Neurology (ACGME Accreditation # 180-48-31-111)  
     
 

X-ray of a brainThe Adult Neurology Residency integrates extensive practical exposure to all aspects of current clinical neurology, with a firm grounding in underlying scientific principles and methods of clinical investigation. This training program will help you meet the challenges of neurological practice by exposing you to the rapidly expanding body of neuroscience information and the human nervous system. The three-year Adult Neurology Residency Program offers: community practice in an academic setting; state-of-the-art diagnostic, therapeutic and research facilities; direct patient care responsibilities throughout your training; comprehensive outpatient experiences and full-time faculty with experience in all subspecialties of neurology. The Program is certified by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and graduates are eligible to take board examinations of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). Training in this program starts at the PGY 2 level after the resident has completed an appropriate clinical base year that meets ACGME requirements.

  Child Neurology (ACGME Accreditation # 185-48-31-078)  
     
  We offer a Child Neurology Residency Program that is composed of two years training with the General Pediatrics Residency Program faculty and three years with the Child Neurology faculty. The program will also accept residents at the PGY 3 level with prior training at another institution. The Child Neurology Residency offers extensive in-patient and out-patient clinical experience, didactic programs and research opportunities. The residency takes place primarily at Memorial Herman Children's Hospital. Your training program can be customized to meet your individual career goals in clinical or academic practice. The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology requires that you complete a minimum of two years of general pediatrics residency or one year of pediatric residency, plus one year of internal medicine residency to become certified in neurology with special qualification in child neurology. After completing two years of pediatric training, you will be board-eligible in both pediatrics and neurology, with special qualification in child neurology. If you complete one year each of internal medicine and pediatrics, you will be eligible only for neurology certification with special qualification in child neurology by the ABPN.   Fellowship Training Programs  
     
  Clinical Neurophysiology (ACGME Accreditation # 187-48-21-066)  
     
 

The Clinical Neurophysiology programs will prepare you for an academic career by providing you with experience in teaching, research and clinical studies. After completing your training, you will have the knowledge and experience necessary to establish and supervise a clinical neurophysiology laboratory in a teaching institution or integrated group practice. The fellowship offers two paths depending on your interests. The Clinical Neurophysiology - Epilepsy fellowship path is an integrated program, encompassing EEG and epilepsy. The EEG portion includes both didactic and clinical experiences. The epilepsy portion of the program is designed for those who wish to acquire knowledge and skills in the comprehensive management of patients with epilepsy and its related disorders. The fellowship experience is one year in length. The one-year Clinical Neurophysiology - Electromyography (EMG) fellowship path will prepare you to establish and supervise an electromyography laboratory in an academic institution or integrated group practice. Upon completion of either path, the fellow is eligible for the ABPN sub-specialty certification.

  Movement Disorders (Texas Medical Board Fellowship # 503-48-14-12)  
     
 

Most movement disorders are chronic and progressively disabling. Treatment requires well-coordinated, multidisciplinary expert care. Advances in genetics, pharmaceuticals and surgical techniques offer many new options to the diagnosis and treatment of movement disorders. The two-year Movement Disorders Fellowship Program offers a rich clinical and research experience, including: the diagnosis and treatment of a full spectrum of movement disorders, including: Parkinson's disease; Huntington's disease; Dystonia; Tremor; Myoclonus; Tic and Gait disturbances; and other disorders of the basal ganglia.   Vascular Neurology (ACGME Accreditation # 188-48-31-014) combined with  
  Vascular Neurology Clinical Research (Texas Medical Board Fellowship # 503-48-14-02)  
     
  Our Vascular Neurology Fellowship Program is a two-year combination of our ACGME accredited training program with a required one year clinical research component that is approved by the Texas Medical Board. Fellows receive two certificates are the end of the training period and are eligible for ABPN sub-specialty certification in Vascular Neurology. The fellowship is specifically designed for those who wish to pursue a career in academic neurology or in a group or private practice. Throughout the fellowship, you will be exposed to patients with ischemic and hemorrhagic cerebrovascular diseases.
