Vision PhysicianThis program, which was founded in 1957, covers years PGY-2 through PGY-4 of postgraduate medical training and gives you a solid foundation for further subspecialty training or a career in clinical practice, research or academic medicine. The training includes inpatient and outpatient ophthalmology, ophthalmic pathology, ophthalmic surgery, a didactic lecture series and research.

This integrative three-year residency offers: comprehensive training that prepares you for a career in clinical practice or academic medicine; extensive didactic training; numerous clinical and laboratory research opportunities; thorough preparation for certification by the American Board of Ophthalmology

Throughout the program, there are dedicated formal lectures and seminars, which continue through the academic year. A journal club is held as part of our organized lecture series. The curriculum, encompassing three years of training, includes electives and in-depth exposure to subspecialties. Your progress will be monitored in the clinics, operating room and teaching sessions..

You will be eligible to take the American Board of Ophthalmology’s examination for certification in ophthalmology upon completion of the residency.

  Fellowship Training Programs  
     
  Vitreo-Retinal (Texas Medical Board Approved Fellowship # 503-48-14-11)  
     
 

Blue EyeThe two-year Vitreo-Retinal Fellowship provides broad exposure to the vitreoretinal specialty.

During the fellowship, the trainee will be exposed to and learn tumor diagnosis and management, evaluation and management of ocular inflammatory and vascular chorioretinal diseases, and management of age related macular degeneration among other conditions. The trainee will acquire skills in scleral buckling and vitreous surgery, photocoagulation, cryotherapy, and interpretation of fluorescein angiograms, ocular coherence tomography (OCT), ultrasonography and retinal electrodiagnostic studies.

 
     
  Glaucoma (Texas Medical Board Approved Fellowship # 503-48-14-34)  
     
 

Glaucoma DocsThe Glaucoma Fellowship Program emphasizes the diagnosis, medical and surgical management of both the routine glaucoma patient as well as the complicated glaucoma problems. The fellow actively participates in very busy clinics with both faculty and perform both laser and incisional surgery directly staffed by the senior faculty. Clinical fellows also work side-by-side with ophthalmology residents and are involved in both clinical and surgical supervision of resident clinical activities and educational programs, including glaucoma conferences. Fellows also see routine ophthalmology patients independently one half-day each week and share consult/trauma call in the faculty rotation.
