Core Resources

Center for Clinical Research and Evidence-Based Medicine

The goal of the Center is to increase the public's healthy years of life by promoting high-quality clinical research and by advancing the application of this research in preventing illness and reducing suffering, disability, and premature death. In conjunction with other programs provided by the Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences, we offer a variety of educational programs and support services to advance clinical research endeavors and promote an environment that fosters high-quality clinical research.  The Center offers educational programs for researchers ranging from fellows to established investigators desiring additional training. Our programs target investigators who are actively involved in research; they are designed to accommodate the schedules of busy clinicians.
The Clinical Research Curriculum is a two-year introductory lecture series designed to promote clinical research expertise among clinical investigators at the fellow and junior faculty levels. Since the program began in 1999, we have had over 1000 participants from a variety of Texas Medical Center institutions including UT Houston Medical School, MD Anderson Cancer Center, UT Houston Dental Branch, UT Houston School of Nursing, UT Houston School of Public Health, Memorial Hermann Hospital, and Baylor College of Medicine. Most of the classes are offered at no charge.  The Degree Program for the Master of Science in Clinical Research at the Medical School is designed as a focused, flexible, affordable program to train clinical investigators in designing and conducting patient-oriented research that is of exemplary quality. The curriculum accommodates clinicians' busy schedules; the courses are concentrated on Wednesdays after noon. The degree requires a minimum of 3 years of coursework; the time required for degree completion depends on the amount of time and effort a student devotes to the program. The K12 program provides support for the career development of young clinical and translational investigators. Funds for research expenses and 75% salary support are awarded for up to 2 years to fellows and up to 3 years to Instructors or Assistant Professors. These awards have the advantage that the applications are shorter, and the funding decisions are made more quickly than are conventional K awards provided directly from the NIH.

Fees:  Clinical Reserch Curriculum free for UT faculty and staff. MS Degree Program fees determined by UT System
