Department Web sites launch

The Medical School’s 23 departments have a new face to show the world, as the web site redesigns of each department are now live.

This work marks the completion of the second phase of the Medical School’s Web site redesign, which was launched and overseen by the Medical School’s Office of Communications.

“The Web is our most important piece of real estate, and I charged the Office of Communications to work with each of our departments to get this task completed by July 1,” said Dean Giuseppe Colasurdo. “I think the sites look outstanding and give us a more cohesive and professional look.”

Eric Rasch, senior Web developer, led the effort of the redesign and was assisted by Brian Minton and Carlos Gonzalez, both Web developers in the Office of Communications.

“Building on the sentiment Dean Colasurdo has been stressing over the last year, this couldn’t have been done without teamwork. From our Web team designing and coding, to the rest of the Communications team for providing content, photos, and quality assurance, on up to the department administrators, faculty, and DMO’s, we’ve all contributed to a better Medical School. I see this as a first step, rather than a second phase because there’s so much more we can, and should, be doing to promote our leading edge Medical School, which again, is a team effort,” Rasch said.

Although some department sites started the redesign process last year, the majority were started and completed after Dean Colasurdo set forth the July 1 deadline in January.

UT Physicians opens pre-surgical assessment clinic

UT Physicians has opened a pre-surgical assessment clinic in Suite 600 of the UT Professional Building.

Staffed by Dr. Mukerrem Ersoy, assistant professor of internal medicine in the Division of General Medicine, the goal of the new clinic is to reduce surgical risk and medical complications, as well as to decrease the amount of time spent under anesthesia and in recovery.

During the patient’s visit, their medical history and current medical condition will be evaluated, and the aim is for the patient to be cleared for elective surgery in less than one week. The comprehensive evaluation will include a physical, risk factor assessment, and may include stress and pulmonary function tests as well as diagnostic imaging and labs.

When seeing the physician, patients are asked to bring:

  • A list of all physicians and phone numbers;
  • Test results from stress test, echocardiogram, electrocardiogram, heart catheterization, and pulmonary function test;
  • All medications in original bottles; and
  • Blood pressure or blood sugar logs, if necessary.

The Pre-Surgical Assessment Clinic accepts appointments 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. To refer a patient, call 832.325.7636.
