Minimum Hardware and Software Requirements

  • Any computer used for official Medical School business (UT property or otherwise) must meet the following requirements for hardware and software.
  • MSIT reserves the right to refuse service to any computer which does not meet the minimum requirements or is out of warranty at the LAN Manager's discretion.
  • Exceptions to the minimum requirements may be made for research computers at the discretion of the LAN Manager.
  • Apple iPads cannot be purchased using University funds, and will not be supported by MSIT.

Hardware Requirements

PC

  • Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD Athlon 64 X2
  • 2GB RAM
  • 80GB Free hard drive space
  • Security Cable (Laptops only)

Mac

  • Power PC G4, 867+MHz
  • 512MB RAM
  • DVD-ROM or SuperDrive
  • Security Cable (Laptops only)

Software Requirements

PC

  • Microsoft Windows 2000/XP
  • McAfee Virus Scan Enterprise 8.5 or later
  • SafeBoot (Laptops only)
  • Computrace (Laptops only, must be BIOS compatible)

Mac

  • Mac OS 10.3 or later
  • McAfee Antivirus for Macs 8.6 or later
  • FileVault Enabled for all accounts (laptops only)

Warranty Requirements

  • 3-year warranty with on-site service
