Research and academic administration covers a wide range of services and expertise provided by the staff toward meeting programmatic objectives and individual and Department goals for the Department of Neurobiology and Anatomy. The Director assists the Chairman in meeting Department goals by coordinating business activities in the areas of fiscal management, personnel management, space management, liaison activities and strategic planning for future directions. She encourages the professional development of departmental staff and promotes innovative approaches to streamlining the business processes within the Department. In fulfillment of these responsibilities the Director is assisted by a Financial/Administrative Team of four employees and a Research and Academic Support Team of eight employees. Services provided by the Financial Administrative Team include: financial reporting; pre- and post-award contracts and grants management; capital assets and inventory control; personnel and payroll actions as well as purchasing and travel processing. The Research and Academic Support Team provides assistance in the preparation of teaching and research materials and coordination of various programs critical to the mission of the Department. Some of these programs include the Seminar and Colloquia Series, Graduate Education Program, Willed Body Program and Medical School Research Committee. In addition, staff assistance is provided to the faculty and course directors for four Medical School courses and six Graduate School courses. Mrs. Soliz is a native Houstonian who has worked at the Medical School since 1979 and in the Department of Neurobiology and Anatomy since 1986. |
