Uniform E-mail Address Syntax

The policy defining e-mail address syntax for UTHSC-Houston as approved by the University Executive Council is as follows:

The name portion of the e-mail address will be a person's name as it appears in PeopleSoft HRMS, SIS, GMEIS or the Guest Database. Examples: 

• John.A.Smith@uth.tmc.edu 
• J.Adam.Smith@uth.tmc.edu 
• John.Smith@uth.tmc.edu 

The one exception to the name being exactly the name in PeopleSoft HRMS is a case like John Adam Smith. Then the e-mail address will be John.A.Smith@uth.tmc.edu.

 

In most cases, these rules will result in the e-mail address being of the form first_name.middle_initial.last_name@uth.tmc.edu. However, it does not have to be this form as noted in the above examples. 

To change the name portion of your e-mail address, you must change your official name with the University.  Faculty and staff must contact their PeopleSoft HRMS administrator, students the Registrar's Office, and residents their residency coordinator.
