Prerequisites
to Obtaining a Digital ID
Personal Status

Must be a registered student, faculty, or staff member of U. T. Houston.

E-mail address must be of the form Jane.E.Doe@uth.tmc.edu .

Must have a U. T. Houston Identification Badge.

Must have a government issued picture ID - examples:
-
Texas Drivers License

U. S. Passport
Hardware & Software Requirements

Personal Computer connected to the Internet

Web Browser - Either

Netscape's High Security Communicator - Version 4.5 or later; or

Microsoft Internet Explorer - Cipher Strength 128 bit - Version 5.5 or
later

What you should know!!!

Your digital signature is your legal signature.
-
Your are legally responsible for its use.
-
Your digital signature is more difficult to repudiate
than your hand written signature.

Your digital ID is kept in a personal security area
on your personal computers.

While applying for a Digital ID, you create a
password for your security area.
-
The password you chose for your security environment
-
is never sent out on the network,
-
must be unguessable,
-
must never be written down,
-
must not be used as a password for ANY other security
application,
-
MUST NOT BE FORGOTTEN - ONLY YOU KNOW PASSWORD!!!!
Consequences of Forgetting
Your Digital ID Password!!!!!
-
your digital ID is lost forever!!!!
-
anything encrypted by a lost digital ID can NEVER
be accessed again!!
-
you can no longer access restricted resources
until you get a new digital ID!!
-
you must obtain a new U. T. Houston Digital ID
