Exporting Your Digital ID From
Microsoft Internet Explorer

Click on the "Tools"  and select "Internet Options".

This displays the "Internet Options" window illustrated in the following figure.
Select the red-shaded "Content" tab.

On the "Content" page, select the red-shaded" Certificates" button illustrated in the following graphic.

The "Certificate Manager" window appears with the "Personal" tab selected by default. Click on the certificate entry to select the digital ID to be exported. This will shade the selected entry dark blue.

Then click on the  red-shaded "Export" button illustrated in the following figure.

The first of several "Certificate Manager Export Wizard" windows appear.  Click on the "Next >" button.

A second "Export Wizard" window appears. Select the "Yes, export the private key" option. You want to export you private key for safekeeping and to allow it to be possibly imported into other computers that you may use.

A third "Export Wizard" window appears.  Be sure and check all the options as illustrated in the following figure. Note that the "Include all certificates ..." option is NOT checked by default when the window appears; thus, you MUST check it.

The fourth "Export Wizard" window asks you to chose a password that will protect the key on the floppy disk to which it is being exported.

The fifth "Export Wizard" asks you to enter the name of the file that will store your digital ID. You may want to select the "Browse" button to make sure that you are storing on the desired drive. In the example below it is being stored to the "A:" drive which in this case was the floppy drive.

The sixth "Export Wizard" window notifies you that you have completed the sequence of Wizard windows. However, there are additional windows after you select the "Finish Button".

After clicking the "Finish" button, you are prompted for the password that unlocks your personal security environment (PSE) so that your digital ID can be copied and exported.

You are then notified when the export is complete.

Keep your backup copy of your digital ID in a secure safe place.  Do NOT lose it.
