Netscape Communicator's
Personal
Security Settings
Overview

Communicator is shipped by Netscape with security settings configured for
nearly maximum security. A setting that you must check is the "Password"
usage configuration noted below in Item # 1.

If your Communicator is being automatically upgraded and maintained on-line
by U. T. Houston network personnel , it should be configured for maximum
security - unless you have changed the security settings. Check with your
LAN manager if you are unsure if it is being automatically configured.

Security settings are easy to find and access because all are accessible
via a single "Security Info" page.
Security Concerns & Settings in Order of Importance

If your private key is left
activate in your absence, then anyone with physical access to your computer
can
-
use your legal signature - you cannot repudiate
this signature,

gain access to your on-line resources, and
-
read ALL of your confidential documents

The ciphers for encrypting messages should be set to prefer maximum security.
If you wish to check these settings, they should be configured as shown
in the following example:

The SSL Ciphers that encrypt information between your Web browser and a
secure Web site should be set for maximum security. If you wish to check
these settings, they should be configured as shown in the following examples:
