Multimedia Scriptorium Training and User Support

Classes We Teach: The Office of Academic Computing (OAC) supports the integrated, computational solution of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston by providing educational programs through the Multimedia Scriptorium. These programs are available for all UTHSC-H students, faculty, and staff, free of charge. Listed here are some of the classes available through the Academic Computing Multimedia Scriptorium. To enroll, please use the online form. If the class dates below have passed, you can still use the sign up form and you will be contacted when new dates are set. See the blocked text below for more information.

HAM-TMC Resources: The HAM-TMC library also provides some courses, available to UTHSC-H faculty and staff. It might interest you to check out their calendar at http://webeve.library.tmc.edu/webevent.plx.

Houston Library: Some Houston libraries also have classes. Check out the listing for the month at http://www.houstonlibrary.org/about/calendar.html.

Blackboard Intro
Create Online Courses and Quizzes

Description: This class teaches the basic tasks of creating online courses by providing text and graphics in multiple formats, but pulling them together into one concise folder. The class also touches on quizzes, the teacher gradebook and course announcements.

Adobe's Dreamweaver is a professionally-acknowledged industry standard for web site creation, building and management. Learn the tools to take your ideas from print to the dynamic world wide web.

Dreamweaver I or Dreamweaver Intro
Create Web pages using Macromedia's Dreamweaver

 

Description: This class has been given under both names. It teaches the basic tasks of creating Web pages and sites using the WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) Web editor Macromedia Dreamweaver. Creating and editing files will be covered. This class does not include dynamic pages.

Dreamweaver II
Create Web pages and sites using Macromedia's Dreamweaver
Description: This class teaches the advanced tasks of creating Web pages and sites using Macromedia's Dreamweaver. (Note: Occasionally, a Dreamweaver III class will be scheduled, available only to those who attended this Dreamweaver II.). This class may include templates, but will not include dynamic pages.

Length: 3.5 - 4 hours

Adobe's Fireworks quickly and easily creates simple graphics, navigation tools, and much more, that can be exported directly into Dreamweaver to create seamless, integrated pages. Fireworks supports both vector and bitmap images.

Fireworks Intro
Gain familiarity with Macromedia Fireworks tools
Description: This class introduces the tools and fly-out windows used for basic graphic creation and editing. This class is a prerequisite for Fireworks I.

Length: 1.5 - 2 hours

Fireworks I
Create graphics for the Web
Description: This class covers graphics creation and enhancement in greater detail. Layers, exporting and slicing are also introduced. Knowledge of skill taught in Fireworks Intro is a prerequisite.

Adobe's Flash turns static images into animated clips and movies. Create interactive learning-ware, add animation to to more clearly explain difficult concepts, and more.
Flash Intro
Gain familiarity with Macromedia Flash tools
Description: This class introduces the tools and fly-out windows used for basic animation creation and editing.

Basic HTML
Create Web pages using HyperText Markup Language (HTML)
