Backup/Restore
Policy
Mail Backups
OAC mail is backed up incrementally. Due to the large quantity
of mail, different mailboxes (organized alphabetically) are backed up
daily. Essentially, everyone's mailbox is backed up once a week.
File Services and Web Backups
File services, including data on heart, oracle2, and the NAS are backed
up daily. All data on our web servers including oac, oac22, oac6,
and oac9 are also backed up daily.
Restore Policy
Backups are done for disaster recovery purposes. Sometimes however
accidents happen. One may inadvertently delete important emails
or wipe out a crucial web directory. Because of this phenomenon,
backups are also a useful resource for the user. Given this information,
here a few key policies to keep in mind:
- Your personal disaster is not our top priority. If we are
busy with more pressing issues, your restore may not be at the top
of the list.
- Turnaround on a restore request is from 2-5 days. Restores
can not always be done immediately because of several technical factors.
- If for any reason your data can not be restored as you wished,
you are just out of luck
- It is possible we may contact your supervisor in the case of a
restore request. We do not do cover up jobs. If you have
deleted something important we want to make sure everyone who relies
on that data is informed of what is going on to recover it.
