| The following information is provided for individuals that are currently using AOL 4.0 and also wish to use the U.T. dialup connection. For those that wish to keep AOL, it is best to configure AOL to access via the UT Network (ISP). Due to the way that AOL monopolizes the Windows 95 TCP/IP stack, it is difficult and next to impossible to use both dialup connections successfully. Therefore, TCP/IP stack pointing to AOL’s adapter must be removed. The information below is provided for those dialup users who wish to access their AOL account via the UT Dialup connection. This is the recommended method to configure your computer to access both connections. |
It is assumed that the AOL
software is presently installed and functioning correctly.
The UT Dialup connection must be set up already
for Windows 98.
NOTE: It is important that the UT Connection be the default Internet connection. To do this, follow the instructions below.
1. First, "TCP/IP->AOL Dialup Adapter" be needs to be removed from Network Properties.
2. Double-click on the AOL icon (wherever
it resides on your computer).
Once the "Sign
On" screen appears, click the SETUP button.
3. Choose the button "Create
a location for use with new access phone numbers or an ISP" and then
click "Next".
4. Then, click the
radio button next to "Add a custom connection
(for example, TCP/IP)" and click Next.
The method of the connection
that you wish to dial through will then appear. (ISP/LAN Connection).
5. Once completed, you will see the
dialog box below, click OK.
6. The America Online Sign On screen
will re-appear.
You can now select
your AOL screen name and location and click SIGN ON.
After connecting to AOL via the UT connection, verify once again that "TCP/IP ->AOL Adapter" has not reappeared in Network Properties. This should be checked anytime AOL downloads new software to your computer.
