The Ruiz Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science provides a full complement of inpatient and outpatient clinical services through its primary teaching facilities: the Cizik Eye Clinic, Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, Memorial Hermann Children's Hospital, Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital, Settegast Community Health Center, Baytown Community Clinic, Acres Home Community Health Center.In addition, indigent patients from San Jose Clinic are seen at the Eye Clinic.
Residency Program
The Medical School coordinates all residency training programs. Each year, ophthalmology enrolls three residents out of approximately 300 applicants for the three-year residency program.
Research
Ophthalmology and Visual Science faculty are at the forefront of research into the causes and treatments of ocular disease, from the investigation of basic biological mechanisms to the development of new treatment methods.
Education
The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science enhances the education of undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate students and trainees by providing a variety of clinical rotations in both inpatient and outpatients settings.
Clinical
Patients come to the Cizik Eye Clinic not only from the greater Houston area and throughout Texas, but also from all across the United States and around the world.
