Basic Science Course
The Course
The Basic Science Course in Ophthalmology was created in 1969 and is sponsored by the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at The University of Texas-Houston Medical School and the Cizik Eye Clinic. The course is four weeks in duration beginning Monday, January 30, and ending February 24, 2012.
Lecture subjects include: Anatomy - Basic and Surgical; Embryology; Electrophysiology/Ultrasound; Pediatric Ophthalmology; Biochemistry; Low Vision; Optics; Contact Lenses; Refraction; Genetics; Pathology; Immunology; Retina; Glaucoma; Visual Fields; External Disease; Orbit and Oculoplastics; and Neuro-Ophthalmology. Lectures emphasize the application of basic scientific principles to clinical situations. Lecturers include physicians from The University of Texas-Houston Medical School Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science and from ophthalmology programs all over the country. Each physician is an experienced, well-recognized leader in his or her own particular field.
The course is primarily designed for residents in training and may be taken at any time during the residency program. The course is also available as a refresher course for practitioners and as a general information course in ophthalmology for Allied Health Personnel.

Tuition
Course tuition is $2,000. Full tuition is required at the time of application and is not refundable after December 31, 2011.
Tuition covers the following:
* Bound course materials including syllabus and lecture handouts/notes from each speaker
* Daily executive continental breakfast and afternoon snacks
* Evening buffet reception on Tuesday, January 31, for attendee and guest
* Attendance at one of the scheduled Phaco Courses and Hands-On Ultrasound session
